There are two areas that cause special requirements:
1.) The empirical case studies, which are the backbone of the entire research project, will be conducted according to exacting social science standards. This requires adequate funding to complete and disseminate the research.
2.) To handle the challenge of an international programme that transcends the European dimension, there will be special requirements on the coordination level. The existing network will be most effective if the different experts can meet on a regular basis. Its global perspective necessitates a heightened budget for travelling costs.
We expect some of our international requirements to be supplemented by funding from other sources. Prof. Appleby and Prof. Shimazono have applied for matching funds at their national level: At the National Science Foundation (USA) and within the “21st Century COE program” of the Japan Society of the Promotion of Science. Prof. Gobodo-Madikizela also is applying for funding at the National Research Foundation in South Africa.
Besides these two points (travelling costs and case studies) there are no special requirements to be expected.
